My Summer Of Reading

My local library had a reading contest.  It was a drawing.  You would write every three hours of reading down on a sheet of paper and someone at the library would sign it and you would put in a prize box of your choice.  I put all of my slips into the hot air balloon ride.  A few weeks later, i got a call that notified me that I had won the hot air balloon ride!  The ride will either be in September or October!  I am very excited for the ride to come!  I did not post or read all of the books on my reading list, but I did read over half, and a lot of others that weren't on my original list.  Currently, I am reading The Wanderer.  There are a lot of crazy things in the book that I hope will get answered in the end!  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer with lots of books!

Pi in The Sky by Wendy Mass

96 percent of the "stuff" in our universe is invisible.  In this book, that invisible stuff is The Realms.  The Realms is a community that watches over all the planets and solar systems.  The supreme overlord of the universe lives there.  He watches over all the planets and solar systems.  He has seven sons that help him.  They control sunsets, keep planets in orbit, make sure the dead enjoy the afterlives and much more.  But the seventh son doesn't know what his job is.  He just delivers pies.  All of a sudden, someone from earth spots The Realms.  Strangely, the girl that spotted the Realms ends up in there!  The earth girl, Annika, is horrified to know that they took her solar system out of the universe!  Now they need to rebuild the solar system exactly how it was except so that Annika does not look at the Realms.  How are they going to do that? Find out when you read the book.

The Anybodies by N.E. Bode

The Anybodies is about Fern, who is switched when she was born with a boy named Howard.  Fern is ecstatic to find out that the Drudger's are not her real parents.  The Drudger's were boring and she was the exact opposite.  Her actual father tells her she is an "anybody," like her mother.  Her father says that an anybody can take form of whatever they want.  They set out to find a book.  The catch is that the book is in a secret code that only her mother can decipher and her mother is dead!  They need to get the book, before it falls into the Miser's hands because he will use it for evil.  Fern's dad thinks Fern might be able to decode the book.  When I read this, I couldn't put it down.  If you like fantasy, this is a must read.

Chasing Redbird by Sharon Creech

Chasing Redbird is about Jessie, whose daughter died from the whooping cough.  A few years later, Jessie thinks that her niece is actually her dead daughter, Rose, and she dies from the shock.  Jessie's husband has gone crazy and he sees her when she is not really there.  Jessie had red hair and her husband called her redbird.  Now, her husband runs around trying to catch her.  Jessie's husband, Nate is now hoarding all of their stuff away.  Zinny, their niece, wonders where all this stuff is going.  Zinny discovers a trail in her backyard and decides to clear it.  Zinny finds many things hidden on this path.  I really enjoyed this book!

Replay by Sharon Creech

Replay made me feel like the characters were real.  It showed lifelike problems.  One time, the boy's sister broke her leg during soccer.  He is auditioning for a school play with one of his friends.  He dreams of being on Broadway.  These are just a few examples.  In the book, a boy wants to know more about his dad, so he looks in the attic and he finds a box with his father's name on it.  He finds out his dad did tap dancing, and he reads his father's autobiography (at age thirteen) to learn more about him.
