The Riverman by Aaron Starmer

Alistair is the kind of kid that everyone trusts.  One day, Fiona comes to Alistair's house and asks him if he will write her biography.  Fiona claims that someone is going to steal her soul.  Alistair thinks that what Fiona says could be partially true, but is unsure.  Alistair has a hard time understanding Fiona's strange ways.  He is confused and thinks that she is making up this magical land.  This is a wonderful mix of fantasy and realistic fiction.
