Kevin is running against Cash.  Cash is everything you want in a person.  Kevin is jealous of Cash's qualities, so he decides to run against him.  Kevin really, really wants to win, to impress Tina, his so-called girlfriend.  Kevin does not believe that he will win though.  Cash's posters are on every hall wall of the school.  Then, Kevin discovers that Cash is no good without Katie, his manager, because he does not know anything that he would do, and now, to get elected, he just has a smiling face.  Kevin figures it is basically him against Katie!  Realistic fiction lovers will enjoy this.

Heartbeat by Sharon Creech

Heartbeat is about Annie, a girl who loves to run.  Her best friend is trying to get her to try out for the girls running team.  Annie tells her best friend that she only likes  running by herself in her bare feet.  Her best friend, Max, tells her how he  is trying out for the boys running team.  Max also likes running barefoot.  So Max is saving up for a pair of running shoes.  Annie is saving up for drawing paper and charcoal pencils.  In Annie's art class they have to draw the same apple for one hundred days.  Some people think the project is boring but Annie thinks she could draw the apple from the bottom and the top.  On top of all that her mother is having a baby!  This book is a great family story filled with adventure.
